Infringement of Copyright
[ 06-05-2008 ]

Recently, we were alerted that a few tuition agencies have infringed and copied a substantial proportion of our website for the purpose of putting up their own website. While we appreciate the fact that our agency's website and quality of service are recognized as a benchmark for fellow competitors to emulate, we regret to announce that their action has caused us much anguish as we have taken great pains, effort and cost to design and put up our website.

Under the Singapore Copyright Act, their infringement can be subjected to criminal proceedings as they have committed the offence to obtain a commercial advantage, in which event they will be liable, if convicted, to a fine not exceeding $20,000 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months. In the case of a second or subsequent offence, the maximum fine and imprisonment term are $50,000 and 3 years respectively.

We have consulted our lawyer and written warning letters to the agencies concerned to remove their website. We reiterate that our company takes a serious view of such infringement and volation of intellectual property. We urge all relevant parties to refrain from infringing or copying our website or webpages whether in words, layout of forms, presentation, appearance and every aspect of our website or webpage at any time and in future. Otherwise, we will not hesitate to take immediate legal action against the offender. We further appeal to parents, students and tutors to alert us should you come across such an infringement in the future. Thank you for your recognition and support.
